Trump’s Cuba policy is a product of despair

On June 16, US President Donald Trump cancelled ex-President Obama’s policy to advance bilateral relations with Cuba and announced the new Cuban policy of his government.

The speech of Trump will go down in history as a disgrace not only for its content based on lies and distortion, but also for its arrogant, pretentious, ugly and menacing tone, which reflected all the aspects of the degenerate bourgeois political culture.

The lies and distortions on which Trump based his new Cuban policy focused on the allegation that human rights and political freedoms are violated in Cuba. Such allegation, which is a product of an incurable anticommunist imagination, is obsolete in the face of the dazzling facts of Cuba. The achievements of the Cuban people in terms of human rights and political freedoms represent the most advanced examples in today’s world. The president of the imperialist US, which has responsibility in every drop of blood and tear in each square centimeter of the planet, is qualified to neither offer patronage nor give lessons to the Cuban people.

Trump announced that in order to “free Cuba” he would further strengthen the blockade, severe tourism bans, and foster support to dissidents. The imperialist US goes full circle and clings to the same rotes, the same policies that have already bankrupted. Condemnation to bankrupt policies means desperation. Trump’s bullying tone cannot veil the desperation of the US imperialism.

Only those who have lost their minds by hatred and greed can be thrilled by a policy destined to bankruptcy and this is what happened actually. It is not a coincidence that in order to announce his “new” policy Trump picked Miami where the counterrevolutionary Cuban diaspora is settled. Yet, Pandora’s box is already open and the powerful reality of Cuba has already reached that city too. Even among the US citizens of Cuban origin, the majority supports the elimination of the blockade.

Being a sovereign country, it is only the Cuban people who can decide on the future of Cuba. The decision of the Cuban people is clear: They will defend the Revolution and continue to struggle until the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed on the country is eliminated and the territory under the occupation of the US military base in Guantanamo is returned to its true owners.

The Communist Party of Turkey declares that it will be in solidarity with the fraternal people of Cuba and the Communist Party of Cuba.

Long live the Cuban Revolution!

Long live Socialism!

The South African Communist Party made a declaration on the new Cuban Policy of the US so as to express its solidarity with the Cuban people.

The South African Communist Party (SACP) made a declaration on the new Cuban Policy of the US, expressed its solidarity with the Cuban people and condemned Trump’s imperialist dictatorship. The declaration is as follows:

“The South African Communist Party has noted with contempt the hostile and misleading rhetoric by the US President Donald Trump directed at the people of Cuba, their democratic national sovereignty and self-determination. The SACP condemns in the strongest terms possible the toughening of the illegal economic embargo against Cuba announced on Friday by the Trump regime of imperialist dictatorship during his foolish rhetoric and attack against Cuba. As the SACP we denounce the entire regime of oppression whereby one state extends the dictatorship of its ruling class and imposes it on another country.

The SACP expresses its message of democratic solidarity with the people of Cuba. Our Party will strengthen and deepen its and working class fraternal ties with the lovely Cuban people. This includes intensifying the just programme for the US to unconditionally lift its regime change political-economic embargo against Cuba.”

Declaration of the Communist Party of Chile on measures of President Trump against Cuba

The Communist Party of Chile categorically rejects the announcements made by the US President that revert the process of normalization of bilateral relations between Cuba and the US, including the resumption of diplomatic relations between both countries, as well as the policy directive to maintain and deepen the economic, commercial and financial blockade against the island.

This decision by President Trump constitutes a blow on peace and respect for human rights of all the Cuban people; a blockade that has continued for more than 55 years and will continue to fail in its attempts to impose its imperialist intentions to defeat the Revolution.

These measures also constitute a setback and aggression against all Latin America that has been defined in CELAC as a continent of Peace. The new US aggression against Cuba is added to President Trump's other initiatives such as his anti-immigrant policy, the construction of the wall along its border with Mexico, and his ruthless attacks on the Bolivarian Revolution in Venezuela, creating a complex and dangerous picture in Our America that takes us back to the decade of the ’70s with military coups that now try to repeat with the denominated “soft coups”.

Faced with this situation, we call for strengthening of solidarity with the Cuban people and their Revolution in defense of their self-determination, sovereignty, and independence.

PARTY FOR SOCIALISM AND LIBERATION (PSL):

In a recent article on the recent measures put forth by Trump against Cuba, Gloria La Riva of the Party for Socialism and Liberation exposed the hypocrisy of Trump's policy towards Cuba.

Referring to the speech Trump gave when he announced new restrictions on U.S. travel to Cuba and a directive to maintain the blockade, Gloria wrote:
"Trump’s speech raised hypocrisy to new heights. He accused Cuba of human rights violations, without any evidence or proof, as justification for his anti-Cuba moves. Yet, last month, he traveled to Saudi Arabia and saluted without reservation an absolute monarchy that carries out weekly public beheadings, denies women their rights, and allows no elections. In Guantánamo prison on U.S.-occupied territory, prisoners have been brutally tortured and denied the most basic human rights.

The U.S. blockade is the greatest violation of human rights, waged against 11 million Cubans."

Gloria pointed out how the earlier freeing of travel restrictions gave the US people the chance to learn more about Cuba. She noted:

"The freeing of travel restrictions has been liberating for the people of the United States. For too long they were fed the most negative lies about Cuba, to justify U.S. aggression and blockade against Cuba.

Now they are seeing Cuba for themselves: the social peace, the absence of homeless people on the streets, a country that has extended solidarity to the world, a dignified people who see and treat the U.S. people as friends.

Trump will never be able to convince the people of the United States to go along with his anti-Cuba agenda. The people have learned too much."

The article concluded by stating:

"Every previous U.S. president since 1959 has tried to destabilize and undo the Cuban Revolution. Each one failed and so will Trump."

PARAGUAYAN COMMUNIST PARTY (PCP):

We condemn hostile policy of the US government against Cuba

On June 16, Donald Trump made a violent speech and signed an act to reinforce the attacks on Cuba. Trump, as a human synthesis of the decayed and criminal capitalism in this twenty-first century, gave more evidence of ignorance, repugnance and brutality.

The communists of Paraguay have maintained a policy of solidarity with the Cuban Revolution since 1959 to this date, sharing in many aspects the experience of the fairest country in Latin America.

The lifting of the economic blockade, the closure of the Guantanamo base and stopping to fund the destabilizing groups is a historical call of the Cuban people and the peoples of the world, to which - once again - we add our voice with great force.

The national and international unity of workers for leading the peoples of the world is the salvation of the humanity in this planet in crisis, where primitives like Trump threaten the continuity of the human species.

For the self-determination of peoples!

For the integration of popular struggles!

Against imperialism and war!

With the Cuban Revolution and its heroic people!

CPUSA Denounces Trump’s Policy Changes on Cuba and Demands an end to the Blockade [En, Es]

Communist Party USA

June 20 2017

On Friday June 16, Donald Trump, speaking to a right wing Cuban exile audience in Miami, launched a vicious attack on Cuba, and announced the rolling back of some, though not all, of the changes in U.S. Cuba policy that had begun by the historic agreement between U.S. President Barack Obama and  Cuban President Raul Castro in December 2014.

Trump announced, among other things, new prohibitions on U.S. citizens doing business with Cuban economic entities managed by the armed forces or security services, and new restrictions on the right of U.S. citizens to travel to Cuba.  This was, in part, a delivery on anti Cuba promises that Trump had made during the 2016 presidential election campaign.

As offensive as are the changes, which hurt the Cuban people, violate Cuba’s national sovereignty and also trample on the rights of our own citizens, the language which Trump used in attacking Cuba in his speech was completely unacceptable and must be roundly condemned.

The hypocrisy, as well as falseness, of the statements that Trump made in the Miami speech and previously to justify the new course on Cuba is stunning.

Trump accuses Cuba of fomenting violence in Latin America, specifically in Venezuela, which he sees as a threat to the United States.  In fact, it is his own government which is working to foment such violence through its aggressive interventionist foreign policy. Cuba’s government responded to Trump’s accusations by reiterating its willingness to continue to work with the United States on issues of mutual interest, excluding only things that infringe on Cuba’s national sovereignty. Cuba in no way represents a threat to the people of our country.

Trump accuses Cuba of harboring criminals wanted for serious crimes in the United States, specifically Assata Shakur. In fact, it is his own government and his political allies in South Florida who are harboring Luis Posada Carriles, a terrorist and former C.I.A. agent who in 1976 was involved in the midair bombing of a Cuban passenger airliner, an incident in which 73 innocent people were killed. The United States has refused to extradite Posada, who walks free in Miami, where he is lionized by some of the same people who were applauding Trump on Friday.

Trump accuses Cuba of undemocratic practices.  This is hypocritcal coming from a man who was proclaimed president after winning almost 3 million fewer votes than his Democratic Party opponent In the 2016 U.S. presidential elections, and whose political operatives are working overtime to deprive millions of Americans of our right to vote through various vote suppression tactics.

Trump falsely claims that Cuba violates the human rights of its citizens.  Rather, he should look at the policies that he and his political allies are promoting and implementing within and beyond the United States:  The Muslim ban, the persecution of immigrants, the threat to deprive millions of people of access to health care, the threats to quality public education and to a clean environment and much more. Are these not violations of the human rights of the U.S. people?  Cuba’s population enjoys access to free, high quality health care and education for all, plus many other things we are still fighting to get in the United States, and as far as health care goes, has benefited countless thousands of people  around the world with its teams of doctors and nurses sent to help some of the poorest nations on earth.  It is hard to imagine Mr. Trump lifting a finger to do anything remotely similar, despite the vastly greater resources of this country.

For these and other reasons, the Communist Party USA denounces the tone and content of Trump’s Miami speech, and we call for continued action to end the 55 year U.S. economic blockade of Cuba.

We demand that the Trump administration abandon the destructive and illegal course of action announced on Friday.

We call upon the U.S. Congress pass legislation, supported by 73 percent of the United States’ people (including even most Republicans), to end the 55 year old trade blockade of Cuba and the restrictions on travel by U.S. citizens to the island nation, as well as halting all interference in Cuba’s internal affairs.

We call on progressive people everywhere to follow the example of the citizens of San Francisco, Oakland, Berkeley and Sacramento in California, Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, Hartford Connecticut and Brookline Massachusetts and petition their city, county and state legislatures to pass resolutions calling for an end to the blockade and travel restrictions.

For our part we renew our pledge to fight to end the blockade, the travel restrictions and all interference by the U.S. government in the internal affairs of our Cuban neighbors.

Communist Party of Poland against renewal of the US sanctions against Cuba

Communist Party of Poland denounces policy of strengthening blockade against Cuba that was announced by the US president Donald Trump. It is a continuation of the imperialist actions aimed on interfering in the internal issues of the sovereign Cuban state. Trump acts in favour of the international capital that wants to reestablish neo-colonial system on Cuba with all its social gaps and huge profits for the corporations.

Due to achievements of the Revolution and determination of the people it would not happen. Cuba remains a country with great gains on the field of education, healthcare and social standards. While the US exports war, Cuba sends doctors, teachers and engineers to many countries of the world. Cuban people lived through decades of the ulawful sanctions violating the international law and it will overcome also Trump's policy.

PHILIPPINE COMMUNIST PARTY (PKP-1930):

The PKP-1930 condemns Trump's policy tightening blockade against Cuba

The Partido Komunista ng Pilipinas (PKP-1930, the Philippine Communist Party) strongly condemns US President Donald Trump's hostile anti-Cuba speech and directive of June 16, 2017, which reimposed confrontation as policy, tightened the blockade against Cuba, and abrogated the previous Obama policy on the normalization of relations between the USA and Cuba.

With arrogant ignorance of Cuban reality, Trump has set back Cuba-US relations and the prospect of ending the criminal US blockade against Cuba in the near future. This change in policy only benefits the irrational and miniscule pro-blockade politicians in Florida who have been lobbying to reverse Obama's Cuba policy for the last 2 years.

Aiming to worsen hostility and even confrontation against Cuba, Trump justified the policy reversal with supposed worries about the human rights situation in Cuba, forgetting that human rights violations in Cuba are only happening at the Guantanamo Naval Base which is illegally occupied by the USA. Antagonizing relations between Cuba and the USA, Trump is undoing the goodwill and mutual respect that Cuban and US diplomats have worked hard to build since diplomatic relations were re-established in December 2014.

By ordering the tightening of the criminal US blockade against Cuba, Trump aims to inflict economic hardship and suffering on the Cuban people, to bring about disaffection toward the Cuban government. Reducing the ability of US citizens to travel to Cuba, and limiting the number of Cuban state companies that US businesses can work with, are blatant attempts to damage the Cuban economy and create unrest in the country, with the ultimate aim of regime change. This blockade not only causes harm and deprivations to the Cuban people, and serves as the main obstacle to Cuba's economic development ; this also affects the sovereignty and interests of other countries, thereby also affecting negatively the development of other countries.

Trump's policy of hostility and confrontation serves as a reminder to all friends of Cuba that the blockade is far from over. It is crucial that all friends of Cuba must maintain pressure on the US government to continue on the path of normalizing relations with Cuba, and ultimately to end its 55-year blockade against Cuba, and return the US naval base in Guantanamo Bay to Cuban sovereignty and territorial integrity.

In issuing a directive in October 2016 on the normalization of US-Cuban relations, then-President Barack Obama recognized Cuba's independence and sovereignty, conceded that the blockade is an obsolete policy which should be lifted, and admitted that US hostility towards Cuba only reaped Caribbean and Latin American (and even international) hostility towards the USA. The Trump regime's hostility towards Cuba can only have the same result.

The PKP-1930 reiterates its strong condemnation of this new attempt by the Trump regime to subvert Cuba's independence and sovereignty. The PKP-1930 supports the legitimate and inalienable right of the Cuban state to choose its poltical, economic, social and cultural system, without foreign interference in any form. We demand US and international respect for the right of the Cuban people to decide for themselves their own future.

For almost 6 decades now, the Cuban Revolution has served as a model for the victorious struggle for sovereignty, independence, social justice and democracy. Unfazed by imperialist threats and enjoying solidarity from all peace-loving peoples in the world, the Cuban Revolution will surely gain greater strength and prosperity as it steadfastly advances on the path of further socialist construction.

Long live the Cuban Revolution !

Trump intensifies US aggression against Cuba [En]

AKEL C.C. Press Office, 28th June 2017, Nicosia

The recent announcement by US President Dοnald Trump on American policy towards Cuba signals a new intensification of US aggression and subversive action against the Island of the Revolution. The US are unilaterally canceling the process of normalizing bilateral relations that began two years ago. Permits to American citizens traveling to Cuba are being restricted again. Bans on bilateral economic and trade relations are growing. Fierce anti-communist rhetoric and open subversion actions are escalating.

Of course, neither did Barack Obama move to end the blockade of Cuba as demanded by the United Nations General Assembly every year with an overwhelming majority. Nonetheless, Cuba, having clarified that socialism is not under any negotiation, welcomed the steps at rapprochement taken by the US and the decision of the US to respond to the calls for dialogue in order to find a peaceful resolution to their differences. Today, President Trump is returning to the policy of open aggression and the refusal to even verbally respect Cuba’s sovereignty and the right of its people to determine its own future. It constitutes, however, a blatant provocation that the United States, in particular the current US President, wants to give lessons to other countries on the issues of democracy and respect for human rights.

AKEL joins its voice with all the forces around the world who are denouncing the policy announced by Donald Trump and stands on the side of Cuba for the termination of the American economic, commercial and financial blockade of Cuba. The events that will be taking place in Cyprus in the coming weeks – on the occasion of the visit of Dr. Aleida Guevara, daughter of Ernesto Che Guevara, to our country – are an opportunity to send out a strong message denouncing US policy and expressing solidarity with Cuba and the Cuban Revolution.
