KKE's declaration on the recent developments about the Macedonia name dispute

The Communist Party of Greece (KKE) issued a detailed statement about the Macedonia name dispute. Pointing out new hardships for the peoples, the KKE rejects any solution from "those that set the Balkans on fire"

Negotiations about the name dispute between the governments of Greece and the Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) are being accelerated in respect to the plans of the NATO and United Nations. Recent developments show a strong possibility for the solution of the 28-year-old question since the dissolution of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and for the FYROM's full integration into the NATO. On the other hand, a nationalist rally was held in Athens on February 4 under the slogan "Macedonia is Greece", where showed up representatives from nearly all political parties in Greece.

Rejecting both the negotiations held upon an imperialist initiative and the nationalist reactions paving the way for dangerous conflicts in the region, the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) issued a detailed statement about the name dispute. While it refers to the "essence of the problem" rather than "disorientations", the statement underlines the NATO's role in the recent developments and comes up with historical experience against this "unhistorical mockery" of ensuring peace and stability through admission in NATO-EU. Against any possible irredentist and nationalist tentative, the KKE sticks with the exclusively geographic definition of the term "Macedonia". "The workers’-people struggle and internationalist solidarity against imperialist interventions and wars" is the solution that the KKE proposes against the plans of the capital and imperialists.
