CPI on Kolkata tragedy: 'Whoever is responsible should be punished severely'

The Central Secretariat of the Communist Party of India (CPI) issued a statement after the flyover collapse in Kolkata.

 At least 24 people reported dead after a section of the under-construction bridge collapsed on the streets of Girish Park around midday Thursday in Kolkata, India.
The collapse of about 100 meters of the flyover buried moving cars and pedestrians in the crowded neighborhood north of the city's center.

The Central Secretariat of the Communist Party of India (CPI)  issued a statement after the incident as follows:

"On Kolkata Tragedy 

The Central Secretariat of the Communist Party of India expresses deep stock at the tragic incident of collapse of flyover in Kolkata that has taken as toll of 24 people and more than 70 seriously injured. CPI conveys its heartfelt condolences to the families of those killed, and with the injured to get healed quickly. This is one of the worst accidents in the recent period. The blame game has already started. Whoever is responsible for the tragedy should be punished severely after a thorough inquiry.

CPI also demands exemplary compensation to the families of those killed and injured.”
